Subject: Personally I cannot get excited about...
....Diesel trains...they do the job OK, but....they will never be as exciting as a steam train stretching its legs...
Here is my personal all time favourite the Nigel Gresley designed Pacific A4 Class No 60022 "Mallard"....the fastest steam train ever built (and it will never be beaten now)....recorded a top speed of 126 miles per hour on the London to Edinburgh East Coast route on 3 July 1938
But more than that....the beast is simply beautiful - I have stroked it, while visiting the Railways Museum in York, Yorkshire....and I have seen her under steam too, but they keep it down to 80 mph maximum these days when they run her on the mainlines....the old steam pipes and valves are getting a bit long in the tooth....
