db, this seems a pretty common hiccup with XP and my experience suggests it's happening to you when your ram is full and your curser hovers across a vid file... the desktop restarts after a few seconds because the ram has dumped and is able to handle the next lot of work....

There's a few real welcome wizards popping by later on and possibly there is a solution that stops this hiccup...let's both wait and see...
