It never ceases to amaze me how absolutely sure people seem to be in their beliefs. "I am right and everyone else is either stupid or crazy." Now myself, I am not too comfortable around guns. I understand the necessity of them in most cases. The thought that there are thousands of them in the wrong hands terrifies me. I don't want to take them from responsible people, just those who are less so. I think the conversation that both sides of the issue need to have is how do we make it more difficult for those who shouldn't have them to get them. While one side pushes for no guns and the other pushes for more. The criminals are laughing their asses off. They want all of you to keep arguing and not compromising. You keep fighting and they keep killing and nothing changes other than Americans keep not listening to other Americans concerns. Both sides are right to a certain degree. The antis want to keep the maniacs from killing people and the pros want to preserve their rights as Americans. I really don't see the conflict. Both sides seem to have complimentary agendas, but both are so absolute in their righteousness that no one seems to remember that as a nation we function better in cooperation. Remember after 9/11? When Republicans and Democrats put aside their personal agendas to cooperate and do what was best for our country? Why is this different? Think of any argument you ever had. There is no comfort from forcing your ideas down someone else's throat. I have been hearing this gun control debate for decades. Personally, I am tired of hearing from people who are sure they have the ONLY solution. I can be pretty sure they don't. I know I don't. But I can be sure that this side bashing the other won't end the debate. Only cooperation and a healthy respect for others own life experiences and ideas will.
Sorry to be so long winded but all this "I'm absolutely right and you are absolutely wrong!" stuff from both sides was driving me nuts.
