My Presario 2145US laptop crashed last week so I went looking for a replacement. After about 5 hours of on-line research, I went to CompUSA (in US) and Future Shop (in Canada). I got a lot of BS on speeds and drive sizes for laptops, along with need for big screen size. Prices ranged from $1,400 to $2,700 depending on processor speed, ram and HD size. In the end, it came down to the operating system. Based on homework (on-line) and discussions with "experts", do NOT go to a Vista operating system as there are hardly any drivers for existing printers, scanners, etc. Second, security issues and background stealth programs leave you wide open. Microsoft is coming out with a SP3 for XP in November that will make it better than Vista. If you can, upgrade the hardware, but keep XP operating system.
BTW, re-partitioned the drive on the 2145US, formated it and reloaded XP. Works just like the day it came out of the factory. Good luck.
