.. Well, I hope youīre off-setting your rigors with some cinematic goodies ;)
Ahh, John Carpenter, the musician.. Was there nothing he couldnīt do? So many memorable themes and scores.. "Halloween", "Assualt..", "The Fog", "Christine", "Big Trouble.." and of course "Escape.." Staples of my music collection, these ;)
Now, hereīs a bit of an oddity. Itīs JC:s score to the PSOne game "Sentinel Returns". The game isnīt bad, but the score is really all classy JC syntheziser grooves, highly evocative of his best movie music efforts (I think youīll enjoy it):

Hmm, i haventīt heard anything about a new dvd edition of "Escape..", so weīll just have to settle for this for the time being :

The commentary with Kurt Russel is excellent though, as it also is on "The Thing" and "Big Trouble.." ;)
I agree about the edit. By keeping Snakes past to mere snippets of expositionary dialogue, it gives him a sense of mystery (not to mention some serious badassness), much like the Man with No Name in Sergio Leones westerns (in which Lee Van Cleef was a staple). Phew (geekiness attack)..
And yes, sci-fi/horror/action/adventure movies these days largely seem to lack a certain pizzazz (for the lack of a better word). Everything is referential and ironic.. But we shall keep digging (and sift through the crud) ;)
Well, I rather like "They Live" myself and so do some other peeps:

Hehe, I just love an obscure eighties reference.. Glorious indeed (and waddya know, this one time less isnīt more) ;)
Well, what is life without a bit of pointless terror ;)
Take care and take it easy, friend!
Geek out.
Ps. For geek points, name the connection between "The Descent" and John Carpenter. Answer to be revealed next post ;) Ds.
