Unlike in the US we in the UK are not allowed to possess a firearm for protection against intruders into our home. To my knowledge the law states that one can only use "reasonable force" to restrain such scumbags should you be physically able, therefore the use of a trusty baseball bat is seen as an offensive weapon and if used is liable to lead to the prosecution of yourself and having to pay compensation to the scumbag!
