Traffic piled up either side, NO train!

Got out of car, (i was passenger) walked to track, looked both ways several times, NO train at station or anywhere else. (Was NOT a metro line but regional) So I directed traffic across for about 5 mins to clear the backlog, then jumped in the car when my friend got to my position, and left.
