"...loud, arrogant, demeaning, thoughtless and ethnocentric..."
The definition describes a constellation of behaviors and attitudes. If the description is a bad fit, then my post was inappropriate, and I've weakened my own credibility by providing it. But that's for others to determine; a person exhibiting those behaviors would likely have no idea how they came across to others. That, in fact, is the core problem; a pervasive insensitivity. I freely admit that it's possible that the phrase might describe me, in addition to or rather than you. As I've said, if so, I would be the last to know.
Midnitecrow clarified a reasonable boundary to guide discussions on his forum; hate speech (even through innuendo) will not be tolerated or permitted. You stepped on this message, attempted to weaken it, and implied that his motivation for maintaining this boundary was the result of both his political beliefs, and the result of a national shortcoming. That was insulting, in addition to being fundamentally incorrect.
Unmoderated forums quickly descend into chaos, where the most aggressive posters dominate, regardless of the quality of their input. The loudest voices take over, and the reasonable people flee. That's the pattern that I've seen develop. I'm glad that Midnite has established, and maintains, some basic rules to guide what is appropriate.
Additionally, I have personally witnessed two people (both of whom could best be described as 'on the left') be asked to stop posting here because they refused to honor the same boundary. There may have been others; I'm only an occasional visitor. Hate, in spite of your insinuations to the contrary, is not a political position.
Additionally, your argument, both stated and implied, that bringing nationality into the discussion is legitimized because 'others have done it' is vacuous. Copying and incorporating the worst behavior of others is hardly a reasonable way to determine the acceptability of your own.
I think you frequently have a negative effect on the forum, and on the discussions that take place here. Let me use your comment "each time you respond to some of the especially stupid left wing posts here" to provide an example. You tend to frame most discussions as a battle between left and right wing ideology, even when, as in this case, it doesn't fit. That's very limiting. I tire of this domination. I'll bet I'm not the only one.
And you tend to express this domination using platitudes, which are generalizations that can be neither proven nor disputed. Generalized arguments don't promote discussion; they foster conflict and animosity. There is no argument that can be made against a phrase like 'liberals are stupid', however statements like that do incite responses like 'conservatives are stupid'. The natural path of this kind of discussion is to attempt to shout louder, or to be more insulting than your opponent. Arguments based on platitudes lead, of necessity, to shouting matches. The problem, of course, it that this kind of exchange is pointless. Platitudes are devoid of real content. This approach leads to nothing worthwhile, but it increases division and lessens collegiality.
I think that the boundary which Midnitecrow reenforced prohibiting hate speech was completely appropriate. I think your attempt to weaken it, and to distort his motives for doing so, is just one more example of your established pattern of forcing your left/right, black and white, all or nothing paradigm onto virtually any discussion which occurs on the forum.
I think you should be thankful that Midnitecrow is the owner of the forum, and the one who determines the ground rules under which discussions occur. If it was me instead of him, I would have clipped your wings long ago, for the reasons stated above.
