sorry about. I barely passed German in college( that was a miracle) and then forgot what I knew. So stop apologizing for your English, my friend! I might be able actually to contribute more( some are groaning at that thought) if I could type. Takes me forever to write a post of any length and I spend half my time correcting typos and rearanging my sentences. If you have trouble totally following what I write, that could be largely my fault, also. Ever since I remember, I've had a tendency to write somewhat stiff and convoluted prose. It served me ok in my college political science courses, but isn't always the most appropriate way to communicate in a forum, esp. an international one like this. I've complimented this place many times and genuinely appreciates the work MNC does to keep it going. It might be best that he and I not argue politics, because as I said elsewhere, it's hopeless. Our root philosophies and attitudes are frankly not very compatible. Unfortunatley we don't talk about anything else either.I have to add, while things can get a little nasty here, it's nowhere close to some forums where crude name calling and flaming are the norm.

I did not mean to imply you have ever said anything insulting to the US , me or about politics here. That's just not your way.

A quick bit of biographical insight wrt my roots. There are pictures hanging on my mom's hall, some from over a hundred years ago, even the 1890's showing the early businesses and homes her family built on the Kansas prairie, from the ground up, once that area had been civilized from it's days as the "Old West" somewhat.I think I mentioned my great great grandfather emigrated from Germany as a religious conscientious objector( he was minister) to the Prussian military conscription to start a new life in America . At any rate they were early settlers and had a very strong work ethic and independent philosophy. My father's Dad, was raised in Montana when it was still as wild as any frontier. I've seen pictures of him standing , as a boy, with a bear he had shot. There's a strain of rugged individualism and strong Christian( my mom's side) work ethic with a matching sense of individual responsibility in my family. This whole part of the world simply has a very different way of looking at things going way back. Oklahoma, eg, considered the reddest of the red states, has a VERY strong, populist, distrust of government, especially the federal government. I'm almost a liberal( US liberal) here. Many of the Democrats here have nothing in common with the national Dmocratic party. Once a solidly Democratic state, the governor and legistature, both US senators, and all but one US congressional representive are Republican

I've said before somewhere, that in Europe, Obama might be considered "conservative" from your viewpoint. In this country he most definely is not, especially if you look at his upbringing, education, and political experience before becoming president as opposed to how he tried to present himself in the 2008 election.. He believes in big government. He also is fond of the term " fairness", that he uses to wrap around a process of social engineering and outcomes quite different from how conservatives think of "fairness".

To totally understand how "American conservatives "really think, you might familiarise yourself with libertarianism, which is at both times a core philosophy of true conservative thinking and a separate category of US political thought. In all of this, I have left out social issues. Actually, btw, some " true" conservatives, especially libertarians, actually share ideas of individual choice on such issues as drug legaization with those on the left.. I have quite moderate beliefs myself on such issues, and am of conflicted opinion on many things like abortion, gay rights, the place of religion, etc. for whatever that's worth.

I've gone on as usual:), but I have to emphasize, AGAIN, that the meaning of "conservative" in contemporary American politics might be quite different from it's meaning in Europe. or many other counties.
And of course there are differing shades of any political characterization.

I almost forgot to mention this. I have come to realize, somewhat through this forum, how much interest there is in US affairs and how stupid of me to undersestimate that interst, I'm remiss in following up on news from many members of the community of nations myself, but then there are a lot of other countries to keep up with! My most important point here is that I'm afraid that the information folks outside the US get might be a bit misleading if its only filtered throught the " mainsteam" US press or an overseas source. If a country has a socialist or quasi socialist set of institutions, the media there might not have an exactly unbiased view of a strongly " conservative" Republican candidte's position on the issues. Just saying. Of course you have to get your info from somewhere.

Have a great day! I'm sure you're no doubt asleep now, but will jump out of bed and run to turn on your computer to read my response to your post, lol.
