My dad who flew B-24s out of Italy completed 50 missions in Sept. 1944, but he never spoke of a big celebration. He might of had better fighter support, though I'm not certain when that became available to everyone flying bombers over the European theater. The people who were unlucky enough to have flown missions earlier in the war were unlikely to have survived 25 missions, unless they were able to bail out and make it back... The arrival of the p-51 saved a lot of American bomber crews' lives.
