Yes, Bush did it badly. Americans believed that America was going to rid Iraq of a brutal dictator who organized underground prison torture chambers, whose sons freely raped women they had kidnapped off the streets, who gassed his own people, etc., etc. They believed that this madman was promoting world terrorism. They knew he had tried to brutally invade his neighbors for no other reason than conquest. Thats what Americans were told and thats why they supported the coalition. Deciding to end the suffering of so many innocent people at the cost of American blood was indeed and 'honourable thing', just like it was when America sacrificed its citizens to help England in its defense against Germany. But Bush bungled the whole matter and now its a mess. We were supposed to free the Iraqis to govern and protect themselves and go home. But the Iraqis instead started murdering each other, stealing everything they could even if doing so crippled their water and electrical facilities, and refusing to make any serious effort to defend themselves against anyone. Had it been England instead of Iraq, would the British have acted like the Iraqis? Of course not. Americans have not changed, GG, we just can't find a great leader. And by the way, it is not the American Majority who would burn books and 'emasculate' the net, it is our worthless garbage leadership that we are about to vote out.
